Watch Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich star in trailer for A24’s creepy horror ‘Opus’
A24 has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming horror movie Opus, which stars Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich.
The film stars The Bear’s Edebiri as the young writer, Ariel, who is tasked with visiting the reclusive, legendary pop star Alfred Moretti, played by Malkovich. Moretti disappeared from the public eye 30 years earlier and is planning his big comeback into the limelight.
However, as soon as Ariel arrives at the compound where Moretti has been hiding, it becomes clear that all is not as it seems. He is surrounded by those who worship his every move, and follow the bizarre cult that Moretti has built up while out of the public eye, which Ariel quickly finds peculiar before the situation escalates into a nightmare.
In the haunting trailer, Ariel innocently asks Moretti, “What is it that you guys do?” which leads to the pop star maliciously responding, “Would you like to see?”
The movie is the feature-length directorial debut by Mark Anthony Green. It is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on March 14th. Opus‘ cast also includes Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, Amber Midthunder, Stephanie Suganami, Young Mazino and Tatanka Means.
Opus will receive its world premiere at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, which will begin on January 23rd and run until February 2nd.
Despite calls for Sundance to be cancelled due to the tragic wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles, organisers recently confirmed the event would go ahead as planned.
CEO Amanda Kelso and festival director Eugene Hernandez said in a joint statement, “Our community has a history of coming together when passion and perseverance are needed most, drawing strength from the deep bonds that make us so resilient. Right now, we may mourn, but we also know it is important to carry on.”
