Ayo Edebiri received “insane death threats” after Elon Musk spread fake rumour
The Bear star Ayo Edebiri has revealed she was the victim of “insane death threats” after Elon Musk shared a post on X containing fake speculation regarding her replacing Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean.
The rumour suggesting that Pirates of the Caribbean is set to be rebooted with Edebiri at the centre of the franchise has no substance and is unfounded. Yet, it was shared by Musk on his X account along with the caption, “Disney sucks”.
Edebiri has now recalled the sheer scale of abuse, including racism, she received after Musk’s post led to a pile-on.
The actor wrote on Instagram: “Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man.”
Edebiri continued: “LMAO. So not only is he double Sieg Heil-ing fascist, he’s an idiot but anyway.”
Additionally, Edebiri highlighted recent comments made by Bill Burr on NPR’s Fresh Air describing Musk as “evidently a Nazi” before adding, “I just refuse to believe it was an accidental two-time Sieg Heil. And he does it at a presidential inauguration”.
Burr also encouraged liberals to stand up to Musk, asking, “Why are we so afraid of this guy who can’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag?” Edibiri shared his comments along with a bullseye emoji before sharing her own experience of the electric car salesman.
While Pirates of the Caribbean is currently on the shelf, it could return in the future but there are yet to be any plans in place. Last year, in an interview with Comic Book, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in an update, “We’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
