Avett Brothers cancel sold-out show as man enters venue with a gun

American folk rock band Avett Brothers were forced to cancel a sold-out show after a man entered the venue armed with a gun.

The gig, which was taking place in Oregan, America, were alerted to a man who was stopped at metal detectors upon entry after trying to carry a gun into the concert. When security told him about the ‘no-firearm policy’, the man claimed to be an “out-of-state police officer” and brandished an alleged badge.

What followed was a nervous wait as security tried to identify the man and told him to wait at the entrance, instead he ignored instructions and snook into the venue. “Due to the obvious threat posed by someone in the audience with a firearm, regardless of his (unconfirmed) claim of being a member of law enforcement, we were obligated, for the safety of everyone present, to cancel the performance,” the band wrote in their statement. “It was unfortunate that such action had to be taken, but we have no regret in being in a position to make a decision which helps to keep our fans safe.”

The band are planning to reschedule the gig.
