Australian actor Martin Grelis dead at 57

Australian actor Martin Grelis has died aged 57.

The passing of Grelis, who was best known for his small role in the sci-fi classic The Matrix, has been confirmed by his talent agency, Sophie Jermyn Management.

They took to Instagram to write, “Vale Martin. We’re so saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved client, Martin Grelis. Martin was a bright spark who lit up every room he was in – a talented actor, a kind person and a wonderful soul.”

Their message continued, “Our condolences and thoughts are with his family and loved ones in this difficult time. Gone far too soon xx”.

No cause of death has been revealed.

In addition to featuring briefly in The Matrix, Grelis also appeared in the 2014 mini-series Schapelle, as well as All Saints, Water Rats and Mabo.

This year, he appeared in Alpha King, as well as the short film The Trial, which would be the final role of his career.

In October, The Trial won the ‘Audience Award for Best Australian Short’ at the Dark Nights Film Festival in Sydney.

On Grelis’ Instagram page, the actor said of himself, “I’m a creative soul. Actor,singer, voice artist & surfer. I adore art & the glorious human condition we all share.”
