Star of Safety Not Guaranteed, Ingrid goes West and Dirty Grandpa, Aubrey Plaza is set to star in Emily The Criminal alongside Gina Gershon and Megalyn Echikunwoke.
Breaking the story, Deadline reports that the film tells the story of Emily (Aubrey Plaza), a downtrodden woman saddled with debt who gets involved with credit card fraud and the shadowy underworld of LA. Written and directed by debut feature filmmaker John Patton Ford, Emily The Criminal will be produced by Tyler Davidson, Aubrey Plaza and Drew Sykes.
Her casting in the film comes after her recent appearances in Black Bear, Ingrid Goes West and Happiest Season, the first two of which she also produced. Plaza also recently signed on to Guy Ritchie’s yet-untitled thriller alongside Jason Statham, and Best Sellers co-starring Michael Caine that premiered at the 2021 Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year.
Life after Beth director Jeff Baena has also cast Plaza alongside Alison Brie for his latest comedy Spin me Round, the synopsis of which reads, “A woman wins an all-expenses trip to a company’s gorgeous ‘institute’ outside of Florence, and also the chance to meet the restaurant chain’s wealthy and charismatic owner. She finds a different adventure than the one she imagined.” as reported by Indiewire.
Discussing her own idiosyncratic personality with The Independent, the actor stated, “You’re weird on talk shows and then people expect that again and then you get caught in this trap. It’s funny because I’m very nervous before I go on. I don’t have this elaborate performance ready; I’m literally just trying to be normal. But I can’t do it”.
