Armani Group condemns planned Georgio Armani biopic, claims film is unathorised

The Armani Group have distanced itself from an upcoming biopic on the late fashion designer Georgio Armani.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that director Bille August was set to bring the Italian style icon’s story to the big screen, which is being produced by Andrea Iervolino.

However, the Armani Group have not given their permission for the film to be made.

In a fiery statement, they shared, “While aware of the existence of Andrea Iervolino & Bille August’s project, Armani: The King of Fashion, the Armani Group has never been involved in the initiative, nor has it authorized, supported, endorsed, or participated in its development or production.”

The message, which is supported by Armani’s family, adds (per Deadline), “The company therefore considers itself entirely unrelated to the project and dissociates itself from both the director and the content of the project.”

Nevertheless, despite not having the seal of approval from the Armani group or family, the project is moving forward.

Upon announcing August as the director, Iervolino shared, “There are directors who make great films, and there are directors who possess the rare ability to reveal the humanity behind greatness. Bille August belongs to that extraordinary category.”

The producer added, “His work is distinguished by elegance, emotional intelligence and a remarkable respect for the lives he portrays. Those qualities perfectly mirror Giorgio Armani‘s own values: refinement, authenticity, vision and timeless excellence.”

In September 2025, Armani passed away aged 91. In a statement, the Armani Group wrote at the time: “Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.”

A funeral chamber was later set up in Milan, which saw thousands of mourners to honour his life and legacy in the Italian city.

His cause of death was not publicly disclosed.
