Arias 2025: Amyl and The Sniffers sweep up with four major victories
Amyl and the Sniffers had a night to remember at the 2025 Arias, winning four major awards.
The Arias, which stands for the Australian Recording Industry Association, is the biggest night of the year in the Australian music calendar.
This year’s ceremony took place at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, with Amyl and The Sniffers winning ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Best Rock Album’, and ‘Best Cover Art’ for Cartoon Darkness. They were also named ‘Best Group’.
During the acceptance speech for ‘Album of the Year’, vocalist Amy Taylor said, “As the new prime minister of Australia, I’d like to say: all immigrants welcome.”
Taylor continued, “I’d like to say: land back, the dole’s going up, and every pub gets a million dollars.”
She also reflected on the seismic impact the awards haul will have for Amyl and the Sniffers’ career, jokingly telling those in attendance, “Probably won’t have to work at IGA (Australian supermarket chain) ever again.”
Other notable winners at the Arias include Troye Sivan for ‘Best Australian Live Act’, and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker for ‘Producer — Best Produced Release’ thanks to his work on the track, ‘End of Summer’.
It has been a memorable week for Amyl and the Sniffers, who are currently back in their native Australia to support AC/DC at a string of huge stadium shows.
After playing the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground with the rock legends, they were due to play a free show in Melbourne’s Fed Square, which was sadly cancelled last minute on November 14th, due to overcrowding and safely concerns.
Following this sad news, they shared on social media, “At fed square and fuming – ready to go! We are so sorry the show is cancelled due to the event not organising the proper security and barriers and the barriers being broken in has made them deem it unsafe to play.”
They continued an hour later, “Didn’t expect this turn out, so thank you for coming and supporting us. Gonna go get black out drunk somewhere in mourning.”
Amyl and the Sniffers then made sure that the people of Melbourne had a night to remember by putting their entire show fee of $35,000 behind the bar at several pubs scattered across the city.
