Arctic Monkeys pay homage to Chris Waddle with ‘Mardy Bum’ twist

Alex Turner pulled out his drum machine to perform a solo rendition of fan favourite ‘Mardy Bum’ to end Arctic Monkeys’ UK tour.

Taking to the stage in Newcastle, the Sheffield band rolled through their extensive back catalogue having opened with ‘Four Out of Five’, ‘Brianstorm’ and ‘Snap Out of It’ at the Metro Radio Arena. After 18 blistering songs, the band returned for an encore which kickstarted with ‘Star Treatment’ before slowing things down with ‘Mardy Bum’.

Fans have been willing the band to perform the Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not track for weeks and, to end their UK tour, Turner put yet another local spin on the song by ending it with a Christmas infused jingle of ‘walking in a Waddle wonderland’, if reference to Newcastle footballer Chris Waddle.
