‘Aquaman’ sets Warner Bros opening day box office record in China
The upcoming Aquaman directed by James Wan has opened to mass success with screenings in China.
The film, which was screened to approximately 30,500 3D screens across China on Friday, is thought to have scooped in excess of $24.6m (RMB 169.5m).
The success of the film, making it a Warner Bros opening day record, will come as little surprise to Warner Bros Pictures International who said that Aquaman’s online profile was “extremely high” in China and has already scored incredibly high review ratings.
The superhero film, based on the DC Comics character of the same name, is the sixth instalment in the DC Extended Universe and has the screenplay by David Leslie, Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall.
Jason Momoa famously takes the lead and is backed up by an eye-catching cast of Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman in supporting roles.
