Anna Calvi and Jarvis Cocker confirmed for Marianne Faithfull tribute concert

Anna Calvi, Jarvis Cocker, Samantha Morton, Beth Orton, and Rufus Wainwright have all been confirmed for an evening of live performances celebrating the late Marianne Faithfull.

Vue Lumiere and the Barbican revealed the star-studded line-up of the guests who will perform live at the Barbican Hall to mark the UK & Irish cinema release of Broken English on March 20th.

The career-spanning portrait of the late Marianne Faithfull is directed by Bafta nominees Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, of 20,000 Days on Earth.

Academy Award-nominated actor Morton will read aloud a poem from Faithfull’s album, She Walks In Beauty, while the rest of the singer-songwriters will perform in honour of the star.

The illustrious list of artists will be backed by the film’s house band, led by Rob Ell, and featuring Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood, Ed Harcourt, Anna Phoebe, and Portishead’s Adrian Utley.

The film to be released was made with Faithfull’s full support and features Asteroid City‘s Tilda Swinton and Cry To Heaven‘s George MacKay.

It follows the duo as they take on the roles of investigators within the narrative framework of ‘The Ministry of Not Forgetting’, a poetic construct committed to rescuing cultural memory from oblivion. Faithfull is its first ‘subject’, rendered through a deeply intimate tapestry of interviews, archival footage, and soundscapes.

As per the official synopsis, the project is a “genre-defying portrait of resilience and rebellion, a final fearless declaration, Marianna Faithfull’s defiant swan song.”

It concludes intimate contributions with friends and collaborators such as Nick Cave, Courtney Love, Warren Ellis, Suki Waterhouse, Beth Orton, and so on.

The iconic British singer and actor passed away in London on January 30th, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by family. She released over 35 albums over the course of her illustrious career.

Far Out praised Faithfull’s last release, 2025’s Burning Moonlight EP, writing, “These songs show off the kind of love that lingers even when it’s not felt, or the warmth of holding yourself when there’s no one else. It’s looking back at your past selves and thanking them for holding out, because all of life’s beauty is anything but singular. It’s Faithfull’s voice in ‘Love Is’ when she sings: “I have been so lucky most of the time.”
