‘American Idol’ music supervisor and husband killed in suspected double murder
Robin Kaye, the long-standing music supervisor of American Idol, was found shot dead in her California home on July 14th, along with her husband, Thomas Deluca.
Kaye, who has been the music supervisor on the hit programme since 2009, was discovered along with Deluca by LAPD officers. They were reportedly called to make a welfare check at the San Fernando Valley home. The couple were declared dead at the scene.
Subsequently, a 22-year-old man named Raymond Boodarian was arrested and charged with the double murder. As reported by The Los Angeles Times, police believe the couple were killed on July 10th.
They also believe that they woke on the morning in question to find Boodarian burglarising their home. A “violent struggle” resulted in the couples’ murder, as they were “ruthlessly shot multiple times.” The couple both sustained shots to the head.
American Idol has released a statement that began, “We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing.”
It continued, “Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
As well as her impressive career with American Idol which spanned over 300 episodes, Kaye worked on Miss Universe, The Singing Bee and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
DeLuca was a singer-songwriter whose most celebrated work was his 1986 album Down to the Wire. His most recent release was Street Rock, which came out in 2022.
The suspect has a history of dismissed criminal offences, according to The Los Angeles Times. These include charges of battery, exhibiting a deadly weapon and threatening to commit a crime with the intent to terrorise. However, these were dismissed due to mental competency and a conservatorship.
