The upcoming Predator sequel has reportedly cast Amber Midhunter in the lead role. Midhunter has previously starred in shows such as Legion, Roswell, New Mexico and Banshee. Reportedly, the 24-year-old has signed on to the project surrounding “a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior.”
The actress is also set to star alongside Liam Neeson and Laurence Fishburne in Jonathan Heinsleigh’s The Ice Road.
It was revealed in November that the fifth entry in the Predator franchise was in the works. At the time, it carried the title of Skulls, and Dan Trachtenberg confirmed his involvement at the project’s helm. The director’s other credits include 10 Cloverfield Lane and episodes of The Boys and Black Mirror. Additionally, screenwriter Patrick Aison (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) is rumoured to be on board.
Trachtenberg took to Twitter to confirm the news, suggesting that the announcement had been made prematurely. On November 20th he wrote, “This was meant to be a surprise,” he said, before explaining: “Been working on this for almost 4 years now. I am very sad that what we had in store for how you could discover this movie will no longer happen. It’s a bummer. But also…YAY!”
The highly successful Predator series started in 1987 with the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger hit. Since the iconic alien hunter’s first outing, the sequels have been, Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010), and The Predator (2018). There was also the noughties crossover films, Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).
