Amanda Seyfried is “not f*cking apologising” for comments after Charlie Kirk’s death

Amanda Seyfried has responded to the backlash she received for describing the late Charlie Kirk as “hateful”.

Seyfried originally made her comments days after the assassination of the right-wing political activist at a speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10th.

On an Instagram post about Kirk’s death, she commented, “He was hateful”.

Then, on September 17th, she clarified her comments in an Instagram post of her own, saying, “We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity.”

Seyfried elaborated, “I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable. No one should have to experience this level of violence.”

Her post concluded, “This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?”

Now, in a new interview with Who What Wear, she said of the incident, “I’m not f*cking apologizing for that. I mean, for f*ck sake, I commented on one thing.”

Seyfried continued, “I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes. What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course.”

She also shared her gratitude for Instagram existing for giving her a platform to speak about her original comment, adding, “Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized—which is what people do, of course.”

Seyfried is currently promoting her new movie, The Housemaid, which also stars Sydney Sweeney. It is set for cinematic release in the US on December 19th, before arriving in UK cinemas on December 22nd.
