Alison Brie provides fresh update on ‘Community’ movie
Although Community ended in 2015, a movie featuring the characters was announced in 2022, yet many delays have kept production from getting off the ground.
Fans can now get excited, however, as several cast members have started teasing the script’s completion, with the latest being Alison Brie. The actor, who starred as the overachieving Annie Edison, appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where she shared exciting news about the movie.
“We got a script, which is a major update,” she declared before adding, “We got a script — you heard it here first.” Brie also revealed that she has “read the script” and she thinks it is “so funny.”
Almost a decade has gone by since Community ended, leaving Brie to wonder how much her character will have developed. “I hope that Annie hasn’t changed too much because I loved her just the way she was,” she stated.
Despite Brie’s claim that “you heard it here first,” Donald Glover, who starred as Troy Barnes, revealed in February that he had been informed the script was finished.
Talking to Entertainment Tonight, he said: “I was told that the script — literally, I was texting today — I was told that the script was done.” Glover, who has gone on to star in high-profile projects like Solo: A Star Wars Story, has been struggling to find time in his busy schedule to make filming the Community movie possible.
He added, “It’s really just a schedule thing [but] I’m in. I’m all in.” Joel McHale, who played Jeff Winger, recently told Deadline that the cast and crew are “basically working around Donald’s schedule.”
It also recently came to light Chevy Chase, who appeared in four seasons of the show as Pierce Hawthorne, will not be appearing in the movie. He departed Community after running into disagreements with his co-stars and crew, with an altercation between him and McHale reportedly ending with Chevy’s shoulder being dislocated.
McHale said that he doesn’t think Chase would be “allowed” to return to reprise his role. “I don’t think it would happen. I’m guessing if you asked him, he wouldn’t be interested,” he added.
While the movie remains just a script for now, it appears likely that shooting will begin soon.
