Alice Glass, half of infamous nu-rave act Crystal Castles has bounced back from her harrowing ordeal with the other half of the band Ethan Kath in the best way she knows how. With a cracking new track called ‘Mine’.
Having also shared ‘Cease and Desist’ and ‘Forgiveness recently, with the former being a “call to arms for survivors.” This new track continues to shine a light on some serious issues in a very personal way.
In October, Glass accused her former Crystal Castles bandmate Ethan Kath of rape and assault, saying, “He forced me to have sex with him or…I wouldn’t be allowed to be in the band anymore.”
Glass went on to say this about the new release “‘Mine’ is about someone who hurts themselves in an attempt to regain control of their own life and experiences. It’s a form of self-sacrifice and also an act of personal freedom for someone who feels completely out of control. I do not condone self-harm, but like a lot of my music ‘Mine’ is about my struggle with coming out of an intensely abusive relationship. In the ritual of hurting myself or taking something from myself I am at the very least in control of that act, when in so many other aspects of my life I felt hopeless.”
