Singer songwriter and all round ‘one to watch’ Alex Lahey, has a kindness and understanding to her sound which is as pertinent as it is poetic. Managing to hold the line between realism and the mundane, Lahey looks for the importance of love in the small things on her new track ‘Wes Anderson’ and shows how the simplest thing can be magical to somebody.
Taken from her debut EP B-Grade University which is available digitally now via Dead Oceans, ‘Wes Anderson’ looks at the ritualistic nature of love and how the habits and movements of a person can make them so enticing, and changes the ideas of how wonderful ‘normal’ can be.
Lahey is able to confront a seemingly voluminous subject matter with a fine tooth comb and pull strands which reflect not only her own emotions but that of a large group of people. She does this without a tongue in her cheek but with the largest of hearts. She definitely has her finger on the pulse.
