Alabama Shakes announce ‘I Must Be Dreaming’, first album in over a decade
Alabama Shakes have announced that they are set to release their first new album in over ten years.
The band’s last album, Sound and Colour, was released in 2015, before they went on hiatus in 2018 and reformed with Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zack Cockrell in 2024.
Subsequently releasing their first full body of work in that time, I Must Be Dreaming is set to arrive on August 28th via Island Records.
The singles that Alabama Shakes have released up to this point, ‘Another Life’ and the recent protest anthem ‘American Dream’, will form two of the album’s tracks, while a new single titled ‘I Feel Hope Coming’ will be released on July 10th.
According to the press release, “The album leans into a richly textured, psychedelic soul sound while exploring love, mortality, human connection, and the increasingly surreal contradictions of modern life.”
In terms of the upcoming single, singer Howard said: “This younger generation makes me feel hopeful because they can see through all the political lies — that song’s about holding onto that hope, and refusing to give up.”
The band said they began experimenting with new sounds when they reunited, and as such the album boasts notes of flute, harpsichord, and sitar, thus making it their “most adventurous and emotionally resonant album to date.”
The announcement of the new album comes in the midst of Alabama Shakes’ ongoing comeback tour, where they have already performed a range of massive dates, including at Alexandra Palace in London on July 3rd, before heading for the festival circuit this summer.
Thereafter, they will return to the US later this month for a run of shows that will see them through the album release, all the way to September 26th, where they will conclude at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California.
