Al Pacino to release memoir ‘Sonny Boy’

Al Pacino has announced that he will release what he describes as an “astonishingly revelatory” memoir, Sonny Boy, later in the year.

Penguin Random House will handle publishing duties for the famous actor’s book, described in a recent press release as the “Memoir of a man who has nothing left to fear and nothing left to hide.” That same press release describes the book as “An astonishingly revelatory account of a creative life in full.”

Sonny Boy will leave no stone unturned, as the book will cover Pacino’s life from his childhood in New York, his upbringing with what he describes as his “Fiercely loving but mentally unwell mother and her parents,” the friends he made in the Bronx when attending High School and his acting life.

The book will also discuss Pacino’s work in New York’s avant-garde theatre scene when he was acting in the ‘60s and ‘70s. All this takes place before his breakout movie roles in The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon and The Panic of Needle Park.

“I wrote Sonny Boy to express what I’ve seen and been through in my life,” said Pacino, discussing the book, “It has been an incredibly personal and revealing experience to reflect on this journey and what acting has allowed me to do and the worlds it has opened up. My whole life has been a moonshot, and I’ve been a pretty lucky guy so far.”

In other news, Pacino made headlines recently for a supposed blunder while announcing the winner of ‘Best Picture’ at the Oscars. As he opened the envelope, he read out the winner immediately rather than reading through the complete list of nominees first, as is tradition.

The actor’s memoir is set for release on October 8th.
