When a band describes their own sound as a ‘unique blend of schitzo synthy paranoid punk’ then you know your pretty much on to a winner, if they then proceed to explain that their interests lay in ‘exploring the desperate/disparate nature of queernes, gender, sexuality and dysmorphic desire’ in some kind of young Lou Reed fashion then, for me, it not only sparks intense intrigue it actually seals the deal, and that’s without hearing so much as a solitary strike of a chord.
Modern Lovers is just one of a number of tracks on the three piece’s sophomore record Fixations, released on Desire Records this June. I love it:
Love in the form of misunderstandings
The first degree in the seconds of absence
The ocean reduced to the flat of a screen
You’re always away from me
Planes and trains are the passengers leaving
The veins and strange of the aperture’s beating
The light of my heart is when yours is dark
There’s always a latency
Fantasy leads me to what I can’t reach
In a pantry that’s full of counting the weeks
Detonate the frustration, longing for you
Is in short a chess game without any moves
Remember, I pretend that I’m going to war
I’ll be back coz it’s love that I’m fighting for
But there’s only a so much a hero can take
When the enemy is them and their own heartache
Modern lover’s dancing in the distance of each other’s hearts
Modern lovers living in the distance of each other’s hearts
Modern lovers Dying in the distance of each other’s hearts
Modern lovers dancing in the distance of each other’s hearts
