Adam Sandler pays tribute to ‘Happy Gilmore’ co-star Carl Weathers
Following the death of Carl Weathers at the age of 76, his Happy Gilmore co-star Adam Sandler posted a tribute to the legendary actor.
Weathers, known for his iconic appearances in the Rocky franchise, passed away on February 1st, 2024, due to natural causes. In a statement issued by his family, it was revealed that the actor died in his sleep.
The statement read: “Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognised worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”
Sandler worked with Weathers on Happy Gilmore, the 1996 American comedy which features Sandler as a failed hockey player who suddenly discovers that he is incredibly talented at golf.
Weathers delivers a strong performance as Derick “Chubbs” Peterson, a former pro-golfer who was forced to retire after an unlucky encounter with an alligator. However, he rekindles his love for the game by mentoring Sandler’s character.
In his tribute, Sandler wrote: “A true great man. Great dad. Great actor. Great athlete. So much fun to be around always. Smart as hell. Loyal as hell. Funny as hell. Loved his sons more than anything. What a guy!! Everyone loved him. My wife and I had the best times with him every time we saw him. Love to his entire family, and Carl will always be known as a true legend.”
