The actress Salma Hayek has opened up about her secret battle with COVID-19, revealing that she almost lost her life to the virus.
In an interview with Variety, the Oscar-nominated Frida star revealed that she tested positive just as the pandemic was beginning to snowball last year and her condition quickly deteriorated.
“My doctor begged me to go to the hospital because it was so bad. I said, ‘No, thank you. I’d rather die at home’,” the actress stated in the interview.
Thereafter she had to receive oxygen and remained quarantined in a room in her London home for seven weeks.
Fortunately, Hayek made a full recovery and returned to filming alongside Adam Driver and Lady Gaga on the forthcoming House of Gucci.
“It was not a lot of time. It was easy. It was the perfect job to just get back into it,” she said. “I had started doing Zooms at one point, but I could only do so many because I would get so tired.”
The Ridley Scott film also stars Al Pacino, and it documents the tale of how the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci plotted to kill the fashion kingpin. It is provisionally set for release in November of this year.
