Actor Rudy Youngblood detained by police in Greece

After finishing up shooting a film in Greece, actor Rudy Youngblood has been detained in Galatsi due to his expired visa.

Youngblood, known for starring in films such as Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto, has been working in Greece for the past few months despite his visa expiring in November 2024. Despite this, Youngblood remained in the country due to health concerns, with doctors advising him to avoid travelling for any reason.

In a statement given by authorities, Youngblood was spotted by police on December 27th, 2024, before taking him into custody. Following a brief altercation, the 43-year-old actor is being charged with resisting arrest, making threats, and possession of a weapon thanks to a pocketknife that he was carrying on him at the time of his arrest.

After bypassing a standard three-day postponement order, Youngblood was brought before a court and given a ten-month jail sentence for his actions as well as a three-year suspension. Upon learning of his expired visa, the actor was then issued an administrative deportation order.

In his defence, Youngblood has stated that he was unaware that he was talking to law enforcement, saying that they did not have any form of insignia on their clothing and did not give him any reason as to why he had been stopped. He has also stated that he didn’t understand what the police wanted due to the language barrier. He is also expected to file objections to his detention in the following days.

While Youngblood had been working on a film in Greece at the time of his arrest, he hadn’t been starring in many films since the 2020s began. Outside of his performances in films like Attrition and the Western Hell on the Border, his only role had been 2021’s Dandelion Season.

According to reports, police had stopped Youngblood because they thought he looked intoxicated. In the past, the actor has been a strong advocate against alcoholism due to his experiences in his family, speaking out numerous times regarding the education of people when it comes to drug abuse.

This also follows a similar arrest that took place in 2017 while Youngblood was in Miami. After abusing various people during a poker game, Youngblood was taken into custody by police. While he had been brought in for disorderly drunkenness, the charges were later dropped by police.

As of yet, there is no word about when Youngblood is set for release.
