Brian Tarantina, the actor who appeared in a number of popular television shows, has been found dead at the age of 60.
The actor, who appeared in the likes of The Sopranos, Gilmore Girls, Law & Order and, most recently, Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment in the early hours on Saturday 2 November.
Reports claim that Tarantina’s niece went to check on him at around midnight and found the actor dead on the sofa in his home.
The New York Police Department confirmed the news in a statement that said: “On Saturday, November 2, 2019, at approximately 0040 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an unconscious male inside of 353 West 51 Street, apartment 11, within the confines of the Midtown North Precinct.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 60-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, fully-clothed, on his couch. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the aided male deceased at the scene (his residence).”
No further details of the cause of death have been released but a source close to the actor told People magazine: “Brian had been ill lately. He was recently in the hospital and was in the process of recuperating from what I believe to be a heart-related issue.”
Reports in TMZ claim that “a white powdery substance near his body, believed to be alleged narcotics” was found by authorities but that has yet to be confirmed.
Tarantina’s manager, Laurie Smith, also confirmed that the actor had been battling illness: “I have known him for years. He was an amazing, very, very talented actor and very sweet person,” Smith said. “I was really shocked and very sad. I’m still shocked.”
