Aaron Taylor-Johnson receives blessing from former James Bond

The recent reports that allege Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the next-in-line to deliver the highly sought-after James Bond role have garnered varied reactions about whether he is the right fit to step into the shoes of the 007 agent. Now, however, a former James Bond actor has given the Nowhere Boy star his blessing, labelling him as the perfect contender for the legendary character.

Rumours about the next actor to play the British agent have circulated for years, heating up after the release of No Time to Die in 2021. Early predictions associated Taylor-Johnson with the British agent, which heightened over the past year after he deemed talk of him taking the role as nothing more than mere flattery.

Bond star George Lazenby, who starred in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, has now described the Kick-Ass actor as someone who can most certainly “handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux,” according to TMZ.

Lazenby continued, adding that it’s understandable why the actor had yet to be offered the role formally, given the fact that he himself “went through a bunch of different tests and auditions before he won the role” in the 1960s.

Nonetheless, he said Taylor-Johnson has his full support as long as “they do the character justice” and that he makes sure to “be true to himself and reinvent the role to fit him.”

Taylor-Johnson’s portrayal of the character would mark the franchise’s 26th James Bond movie since the very first in 1962 with Sean Connery. It was rumoured recently that the actor had received a formal offer for the role ahead of production set to begin this year; however, he has yet to confirm this development and whether he would accept the opportunity.

The actor recently spilt his opinions on studios and franchise movies, explaining that “we’ve all had enough of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture where they’re churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema.”

He also told Rolling Stone that “whatever’s drawn out for me, I can fuckin’ do better,” suggesting slight irritation at the constant questions that centre around his next move in the industry.

For now, however, it seems he is focused on enjoying the various projects set to come out this year: Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, and one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Nosferatu.
