A new Jason Bourne movie is in the works
Plans for a new Jason Bourne movie are in the works over at Universal Pictures.
Notably, the Jason Bourne story started with the late author Robert Ludlum’s 1980 novel The Bourne Identity. The book was adapted into a hit feature film of the same name in 2002, starring Matt Damon as the lead character. After this, Damon appeared in the three sequels, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum and Jason Bourne. Jeremy Renner took up the mantle as the main character Kenneth James Kitsom / Aaron Cross in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy.
According to an exclusive report in Deadline, Universal is putting the plans together for another Jason Bourne film. According to the publication All Quiet on the Western Front, director Edward Berger is in negotiations to helm the project.
Per Deadline, Universal could not be reached to comment on the matter, but the insiders who are close to the development maintained that there is no script at the moment and that things are at a very early stage, but plans are in motion to bring Jason Bourne to the silver screen once more.
If Universal manages to strike a deal with the director, Berger would be the only name attached to the project. The publication also claims in their report that their insiders have added that Matt Damon would be approached first with the chance to return once the script is finished.
As well as the Oscar-winning All Quiet on the Western Front, Edward Berger has also won acclaim with his work on the series The Terror, Patrick Melrose and Your Honor. Patrick Melrose was nominated for five Emmys and a Golden Globe.
