Back in 1994, Spike Jonze joined forces with The Beastie Boys to turn their new track ‘Sabotage’ into a 70’s cop thriller. Filled to the brim with explosions, fights and the death of test dummies. Now, some hero has paired it with Sesame Street to create something entirely fucking fantastic.
Jonze really turned music promos, which was slowly becoming a very expensive art, on its head with this budget brilliance. The original video still remains a bastion of doing crazy stuff just because you can. So it seems the perfect fit to then add the wholesome glory of our beloved Sesame Street and send them on the ride of their lives.
We live in debt then, to mash-up artist Adam Schleichkorn who saw the potential to crash these two different worlds together and make us all feel happy for a few minutes. ‘Sabotage’ is the latest of the 90’s hip-hop mashups from Adam, with Bone Thugz and Harmony a particular highlight.
The mashup aims to be a shot-for-shot recreation of the original video, and for the most part, it’s a success, as it turns out there are lots of daring car chases and escapes in Sesame Street. You can watch ‘Sesametage’ below.
