Looking back at Oasis covering Slade’s Christmas hit ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’

After a quick share from Oasis’ official Twitter account, we were reminded of this classic take on Slade’s notorious Christmas party banger ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ from the legendary Noel Gallagher and Oasis.

The singer took on the cover as part of an initiative from NME called 1 Love in support of the War Child charity which worked with children affected by war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

As part of the album compilation, artists were asked to pull together one of their favourite covers out for the record. The list of artists includes the likes of Faithless, The Prodigy, Jimmy Eat World as well as the Manc overlords of Britpop Oasis.

Noel Gallagher takes the lead on this classic 1973 hit ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’ and delivers a delicious cover full of Christmas cheer. Although it may seem strange to have the two artists crossover—it’s not the first time.

Oasis also took on the band’s ‘Cum On Feel the Noize’ at their iconic Maine Road gig in 1996 for an equally brilliant cover.

You can listen to both of those brilliant covers below.
