Neil LaBute, the director of The Shape of Things, The Wicker Man and In the Company of Men, is due to direct a brand new film titled Out of the Blue starring Diane Kruger and Ray Nicholson.
Principal photography on the feature is due to start in Rhode Island next week in a film outlined as a contemporary tale of love, deceit and murder. The plot concerns Connor (Ray Nicholson), whose dull life is transformed into a fantasy thriller after he meets the alluring Marilyn (Kruger). Engaging in an affair with the woman, Connor, an ex-convict, finds himself face-to-face with the woman’s abusive husband and vulnerable step-daughter and is compelled to help solve the situation.
The film was announced by Quiver Distribution on August 30th, with Berry Meyerowitz and Tara Craig attached in producing roles. In a statement from Quiver, co-presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman stated, “Neil LaBute is one of the most ingenious and powerful contemporary filmmakers…It has been incredible to watch this project take form with the talents of Diane and Ray, and we are eager for filming to begin!”.
Diane Kruger is due to appear next in The 355 alongside Jessica Chastain, Penélope Cruz and Lupita Nyong’o, with previous credits including Quentin Tarantino’s Oscar-winning Inglourious Basterds and German-made In the Fade. Meanwhile, Ray Nicholson was recently seen in Amazon’s series Panic, as well as the action thriller The Outsider.
Director Neil LaBute is an influential American playwright, screenwriter and director best known for 1997s In the Company of Men, as well as Possession, The Shape of Things, Nurse Better, Lakeview Terrace and Death at a Funeral.
The director’s latest project is titled Alone Together and stars Carlease Burke, Nathalie Boltt, Juan Riedinger in a story that follows the devastating effects of the global pandemic on families and individuals around the world.
