It’s hard to pin the late David Bowie to just one of his legendary manifestations. From the Thin White Duke to Aladdin Sane, David Bowie was rock’s definitive chameleon. But one look has always defined his break out from singer to bonafide icon. The rock and roll star from outer space: Ziggy Stardust.

We like to take time every so often to revisit the great man’s work and upon dusting off our Ziggy record (and enjoying every damn lick of it) we took a closer look at the front cover of the album and a shot which would not only define an artist but befriend and embolden a generation.

Brian Ward was the man entrusted with empowering Bowie and his creation, to really become the alien rock and roll star. Boy, did he!? The powerful image is burned into many a fan’s brain as the greatest album cover ever.

We got curious and wanted to see as much of this shoot as possible. Luckily, we found the results and they are utterly astonishing.
