As relative new comers to Ought we are somewhat catching up with the brilliance of the Montreal band. With every new release we get a little bit more excited about the upcoming album and today is no different as they share ‘Desire’; the latest cut.
With the brand new album to follow up 2015’s brilliant Sun Coming Down. The new album will be released on February 16th 2018 via Merge Records and will be called Room Inside the World, and based on their recent releases it will become a cult classic as soon as the needle drops.
We say cult classic because of the challenging sound the band produce. This is no identikit indie output, the current crop of songs to pick from offer something intricate and layered, all punctuated with Tim Darcy’s brilliant vocal.
It’s a vocal with a myriad of inspirations and because of it, it feels natural and warm, a juxtaposition to the sometimes industrial and chilling music. ‘Desire’ however offers a gentler approach, allowing a little softness to push through as the band dabble with a shoegaze choral refrain.
Take a listen below and be really damn sure to get the album when it comes out, it will be one of the best of the year.
