The enigmatic director Tobe Hooper has passed away on Saturday in L.A., of natural causes at the age of 74. Hooper is renowned for his primary works as an influential director of pioneering horror flicks; The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist.

The former was influenced, like Psycho, by the tales of Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein and went on to become a global franchise, while Poltergeist took acclaim for being not only incredibly scary but shrouded in real-life mystery.
